IGNORE THE EMAIL FROM KATHY DATED 07-27-10

Both Kathy's Hotmail and Yahoo email accounts have been hacked. The culprit has then sent an email to everyone in her address book claiming they are her and they need money. This is not true. We are currently trying to recover her accounts. Don't reply to this email.

Please remember, never answer any emails asking for account information. If in doubt always call on the phone. I also suggest you create strong account passwords. Make them long and use both numbers, letters and symbols such as # or $. I know this won't make them easy to remember but it will also make them difficult to hack. You can always keep a copy of the password written down somewhere and if you lose it all you would have to do is click forgot password and it will ask you the security questions.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT (02/02/2010):

Andria Simmons, the AJC reporter who wrote some articles about my daughter Anke's murder informed me that soon she will be working on a story about the troubling rise in prescription medicine addiction among teenagers and young adults. Yes, I do know about the tsunami of drug-related deaths (illegal AND legal) which has hit this country. She asked me if any in our TCF Chapter have a story they could share about a child who was addicted to prescription drugs. I think it would be very compelling and informative for other parents to hear and read. Andria writes very good articles, not twisting things around.

All of you know it's easy to talk to cops and drug treatment centers, but it's very difficult for a journalist to find a source who has first-hand experience of what havoc this kind of addiction can wreak on a family.
Andria asked me if I knew of such a family - it could not be a story about Anke, because Anke used illegal drugs.
If your child died because of prescription addiction - or overdose of a prescription - please contact me and I will bring you in contact with Andria.

NEW POSTING:

Thank you Ria for sharing your story. You can see it here: www.tcfmarietta.org/ria

If anyone else would like to have their story posted to the website please email it to me and I will put it up. If a lot of people start sending them then I will dedicate a special section of the website to it.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

The new TCF Marietta forum is up! It is located at www.tcfmarietta.freeforums.org. The forum is absolutely free for us to join and use, so please ignore the ads as they are a necessary evil. If you have never used a forum/messageboard before it is a wonderful tool that allows you to post public messages to which other TCF members can see and respond. You can also respond to the topics others have posted, send private messages and upload content such as links and pictures. Since I just created it don't be surprised if there isn't much discussion going on inside. If you'd like to try it out by using posting a topic, that would help get things moving. If you need help getting started I tried to create basic instructions for registering here, feel free send me questions as well.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Several times I've been asked to start a group for the parents who lost their child to drugs - whether those drugs were prescription drugs or illegal drugs. I know that some of those who'd like to attend such a group are struggling with their deceased childs addiction.
In such a group we would talk open and freely about our experiences having a child using and abusing drugs, living with us at home or on their own.
At this years Conference in Portland I attended the workshop "Death From The Disease Of Addiction" which was a great workshop. I'm in contact with the presenter who lost her adult son who was an addict, he overdosed on heroin and alcohol. She sent me bracelets just for people like me, it's not a secret that Anke was an addict - her murder is drug related. The bracelets are purple/green and say NO SHAME OR BLAME - JUST LOVE - you may have seen some people at our last meeting wearing those. Anybody who'd like one just let me know and I'll give you one.
We would stay with TCF of course but could opt to meet another day for this - maybe at the church if room is available.
I have not picked out a day - I'm waiting for responses.
